Allene Harper Hilliard was born in 1915 in Atlanta, Texas to Thomas and Nancy Harper.  The last surving offspring of 13 children.  She was preceded in death by her siblings Vivian, Gladys, Florence, Eunice, Blanche, Josie, Claude, Ennis and Willie.


 


As a young girl, she attended Enon first Baptist Church in Atlanta, Texas.  Allene was married to R. J. Henderson of Atlanta and to this union daughters, Bernice Henderson Flowers and Alvis Jean Henderson were born.  She later moved to Houston where she met and married Sid Hilliard and from this union were born two children, Maudie Hilliard Jordan and Sidney Allene Hilliard.


 


A dedicated wife, mother, homemaker, friend and church member.  Allene opened her home, especially her kitchen, and many benefitted from her wisdom and her no nonsense approach to life.  She was a member of Loyal Baptist Church serving in Day Mission and Nurses Aide Board.


 


Allene had a passion for cooking; she owned and operated several restaurants, a successful catering business and even cooked for the Museum of Fine Arts before retiring. 


 


She was preceded in death by her husband Sid Hilliard and daughters, Alvis Jean Henderson and Bernice Henderson Flowers.


 


She leaves to cherish her memory a loving daughter, Maude Hilliard Jordan (Edward), her devoted son, Sidney Allen Hilliard, eleven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
